Online Guntai and Makiage Shibori - Online via Zoom
The following classes are recommended for further study:
Beginner’s Shibori - the building blocks of stitching and binding
Boshi Shibori - the use of capping and reserved grounds
Hishaki-nui Shibori - stitched patterns worked on the fold
Katano Shibori - stitched work on pleated fabric
What will I learn?
In this class you will learn two traditional Japanese Shibori techniques, Guntai and Makiage shibori, that combine stitching and binding together to make bounded patterns.
Content:
– How to tie the basic kamosage knot used to secure all bound work
– How to tie the quilters knot and the surgeons knot required for all stitched work
– How to create bounded side to side stitched patterns (these patterns are known as “Guntai” or Military shibori as they were often used to decorate samurai clothing
– How to sew an outline and bind it with Kumo spiderweb binding (these patterns are known as “Makiage”)
– How to dye with indigo and Dylon (which you can use to dye your pieces at home after the class)
